ZiZoo finds his groove on ‘Gorilla Bounce’
Dancehall artiste ZiZoo is making waves with his Gorilla Bounce single which went viral on TikTok and other social media platforms recently.
"My brother, Booma, built the Gorilla Dance inna about March or so, and the song build same time with the dance. Mi just freestyle it at the same time and release it, and it just shot," said the artiste.
The song took off on TikTok, with hundreds of schoolchildren and teenagers making videos demonstrating the dance.
ZiZoo, whose given name is Alphanso Hoyte, grew up in Trench Town, where he attended Charlie Smith High School. He wanted to be a comedian, but instead chose to become a recording artiste as he grew older. His mother gave him the nickname 'ZiZoo' in honour of his older brother, who was a talented footballer for the Boys' Town under-17 squad. Unfortunately, his brother was gunned down in 2021.
He recorded his first single, School in Summer, in 2020, but first generated traction with a song called iPhone 10 last November. Now, he believes that he has a hit with Gorilla Bounce. He got a major buzz with a recent feature on an episode of the highly rated ER on TVJ.
"Right now, I am focusing on making great music and I plan to do an EP later this year," he said. "The future is looking very bright, and I am pushing to get to the next level."
